As Hazel Grove High School prepares to close its doors for the summer holidays, we reflect on a year filled with remarkable achievements and memorable moments.

From stellar performances to sporting victories, our students have truly excelled in 2024!

Here are just some of the highlights from this year.

Year 8 Student Reports for Sky Kids News

In February, Year 8 student Iara had the exciting opportunity to present her own news report as part of Sky Kids FYI: Weekly News Show.

Her articulate and insightful reporting on Mat Zero captured the attention of viewers and highlighted the importance of youth perspectives in media.

Iara has since produced more reports for Sky Kids, we cannot wait to share more of her stories soon!

We’re off to see the Wizard!

In March, we went off to see the wonderful Wizard of Oz! Students brought the magical tale of the Wizard of Oz to life in their spectacular school production over 3 nights.

The hard work and creativity of everyone involved, from the cast and musicians to the crew and staff behind the scenes, turned the production into a resounding success and a cherished memory for all who attended!

Year 7 Footballers Top the Stockport Schools League

It was a great finish to the season back in May for the Year 7 Boys Football team as they were crowned Stockport Schools Year 7 League champions 2023/24 at Edgeley Park.

Success at the Trust Science Fair

In June, two students represented HGHS at the Trust Science Fair and their exceptional projects wowed the judges!

Will in Year 7 secured second place overall with his exceptional Gerbil Marathon presentation, while Emilia in Year 8 won the Oracy award with a compelling presentation on Water Clocks!

A Competitive Sports Day and House Cup Assembly

In this year’s Sports Day, students participated in a variety of events over two days to earn enough points to win for their House.

After some very closely contested field events on the first day, there was only 90 points between 1st and 5th place. Magnus was in the lead, with only 3 points separating them from Altius in second place.

This meant it was all to play for in the track events of day two, and the pressure was on!

Students gave their all to be in with a chance of Sports Day glory. The final scores were tallied up, and Altius were named the winners!

Well done to all our competitors, and a special congratulations to Emily who broke the Year 7 200m record by over a second, surpassing the record that had been standing since 1982 with a new time of 27.68 seconds!

For the House Cup assembly, the hall was full with excitement as everyone gathered in their Houses to see who would be the winners of the House Cup and the Sports Cup.

It was a fantastic afternoon of celebrations and a delight to see everyone representing their Houses in their House colours.

Congratulations to Laurus, your winners of the House Cup 2024, and to Altius, who won both the Sports Cup AND Sports Day!

A Year of Success for Sixth Form

This academic year we were thrilled to open the doors to our newly redeveloped Sixth Form.

It has been an exciting year full of opportunities and achievements for our Year 12 cohort, who have dedicated themselves to their studies this year and truly put in the hard work!

We’re excited to see what they achieve next as they move into Year 13, and look forward to welcoming our new Year 12 cohort in September.

Watch the end of year message from our Director of Sixth Form, Mrs Lambert:

Congratulations to all our students and staff for their hard work and achievements this year.
