Two Hazel Grove High School sixth formers, Olivia Wilde and Rory Challinor, have secured places at Russell Group universities to study medicine following the release of this year’s A Level results.
They are among many Hazel Grove Sixth Form students who are heading to university following a difficult end to their school careers as the coronavirus pandemic closed schools across the county in March.
Olivia, who achieved A*A*A* and will be studying at University of Birmingham, said: “I was so excited I had to double check I had seen my results correctly. I’m really happy I got into my first-choice university.”
HGHS head of school Martin Stewart paid tribute to all the A Level students. He said:
“We are really proud of all of our Year 13 students. Despite a very challenging end to their time in our sixth form, they have achieved the grades to help them go to their next steps and we wish them the very best in the future.”
Sean Hatch, who will be studying Radio and Television at Salford University, said: “I’m really happy and excited to have secured a place at Salford University to study a subject which is my passion.”
Director of Sixth Form at Hazel Grove High School, Ben Vickers, praised the students for their hard work before and during the pandemic: “Our students have worked so hard during their time at Hazel Grove Sixth Form and deserve every success in the future. We have students going to a wide range of universities and apprenticeships studying some exciting courses. We will continue to support them and wish them the very best.”
