Dear Parents/Carers,
I write to you with an update on the uniform and branding consultation. Firstly, thanks again to all those individuals who took the time to share their views during both consultations. Following our last communication in December we have received some feedback and comments, and wish to clarify a few points moving forward:
- The maroon blazer will be retained – but it will be without the blue piping. The new blazer, with a new logo, will come in for Year 7 in September 2020. From the summer, all sales of the old blazer will stop so any new blazers purchased will be the new design. It is our hope that, naturally, all the old blazers will phase out by the end of the 2022/23 academic year.
- A new tie will be implemented, which will be a maroon and silver stripe. All students will be expected to wear this from September 2020.
- All students will be expected to wear white shirts from next September and a plain black V-neck jumper will also be part of the uniform. Initially the jumper will be an optional item.
- Black trousers and skirts, which meet the requirements of our existing uniform policy, will also remain.
- From September 2020 there will no longer be a requirement for students to wear a black coat as coats will not form part of our uniform policy.
- The current Year 10 students will wear the same black jumper and blue polo shirt that the current Year 11 wear.
- There will be no changes to the type of footwear that can be worn, footwear must meet the requirements of our existing uniform policy.
- There are no changes to the current uniform for this academic year, however from the academic year 2020/21 there will be no summer uniform.
We will also be phasing out our existing PE kits. Again, this will formally start with our Year 7 intake in September 2020 and phase in from there over the following years. The main changes will be the addition of the new logo, a black and maroon colour scheme and unbranded black jogging bottoms and/or leggings.
As communicated previously on the school branding, the lion was the preferred option as, collectively, almost every part of the community stated that was the logo they liked the most.
That being said, there were some helpful suggestions as to how to evolve the lion logo further, particularly from the students. We worked on this over the Christmas break and have since shared this with some students and staff. The final version is attached below.
Thank you once again for all your efforts in helping us to get to this point. We hope that you see we are trying to do everything we can to reduce pressures on families, while developing a uniform that is more affordable over the longer term and reflects our exciting future.
Kind regards
Mr M Stewart
Head of School
